Tom Hardy Being Lined Up To Play James Bond

Very mixed thoughts on this, I love both Hardy and Bond, and yes he would be excellent in a Criag esque interpretation, but isn’t it time for a Fassbender shaped change?

Daniel Craig is signed up for another two outings as James Bond, but the actor apparently has no interest in returning after that point. So, as ever, here starts the rumours of who could be next to play 007. The first shout is that Tom Hardy is currently being lined up to play the world’s most famous spy, that’s the word according to The Daily Star, at least.

Not the most reliable of sources, the paper says, “Although Craig is signed up for the next two Bond films, the search for his replacement is already on. Tom is right at the top of the wish list. He’s been approached to gauge his interest and he’s keen.”

To add further to this rumour, Hardy has previously declared his love for the James Bond character. Back in March, he said, “I’d love to play Bond with Chris Nolan as a director…

  1. I wouldn’t mind 🙂 Although Fassbender would be pretty awesome too.

    1. Yeah I wouldn’t be opposed to the idea, it just seems that when you get a new Bond you should really strike out with a new interpretation of the character. Tom Hardy is my favourite male actor so I know that he can deliver the goods, but I’m not sure the direction I assume they would want him to go in is the right one for the franchise. Fassbender would be wouldn’t he!

      1. Yeah. Hardy’s amazing but maybe he’d be too similar to Craig? I don’t know. Still very curious about him in the role. Fassbender would be great. And I know it’s not 10 years ago but I’m rooting for Clive Owen as well.

        1. I think so, nothing against Craig whatsoever but I think Hardy would be a better version of Craig’s style Bond, possibly even better than Dalton who is also in the same mould.

Owen is not a bad pick, but when you consider that he would be into his early 50’s when he starts it kind of rules him out! Remember that Moore left when he was around 57.

  2. Ehhhh, I could see Fassbender doing okay. I dunno… Bond is one of those characters that as soon as you hear an actors name as possibly portraying him you almost immediately think they’ll do well or they won’t. I liked Hardy as a possibility right off the bat, Fassbender…. not so much. But, that’s why I’m not in the casting business 🙂

    1. Well I do not doubt that I would have a great time with Hardy in the role; I think the guy is awesome and could pull the role of. But I would like the series to move into a different interpretation of Bond when they change actors – that may not happen with Hardy.

  3. *thumbs up* Wahooo!!! I like this idea! Of course I’d rather see Richard Armitage as Bond but I love Tom Hardy too and he’s got the swagger and charisma for the role IMO.

    1. I completely understand why you love the idea, I certainly won’t complain much if it did actually happen. Hardy is awesome and brings so much to every role that he plays, it wouldn’t be a bad thing for the future of the franchise to cast him.

Armitage is an interesting choice, no love for Fasssbender?

      1. Oh I like Fassbender, I just prefer someone else as Bond. My top choice is always Armitage, but I think Hardy has a better chance as he’s more recognized in the US.

        1. Yeah I guess so. But then again, remember how Craig wasn’t all that well known before Bond.

  4. he would be a good choice, but he’s too obvious IMO. That’s one of the things I liked about Craig. No one expected him…the blonde bond…to be picked, let alone to be a good Bond. I think that Hardy is a good choice, but he isn’t who I would prefer to see in the role!

    1. Yeah, it sounds like we are on the same page here!

  5. I’ve just watched Shame – don’t get me started on Fassbender’s shape. :-p

    1. Haha, if he were to become Bond then we would have a movie where Bond was finally dealing with his sex addiction!

      1. Lol! That’s funny. Because Bond certainly has a problem… 😉

        1. He really, really does doesn’t he!

  6. We’ve still yet to see a properly aristocratic Bond (excepting Sir David Niven in Casino Royale because the film is horrible); my pick in that regard would be man of the moment Benedict “Cheekbones” Cumberbatch.

    1. Yeah that makes sense, Fassbender is a step in that direction but not Cumberbatch levels.

      1. I don’t suppose we’ll see an Eton-educated snob of a Bond unless there’s a major turnaround in the fashionability of the aristocracy. On the other hand, it’s something we haven’t seen in the movies, & it’d be “truer” to the novels.

        1. Oh yeah, I really don’t see it happening any time soon, if ever. Cumberbatch would be such a change in direction for the show, let alone a true, aristocratic snob of a Bond.
