The Magnificent Seven Remake Adds Ethan Hawke to its Cast…

Ethan Hawke is yet another interesting name to be added to the upcoming reboot…

There’s a real question as to whether there really needs to be a Magnificent Seven remade at all, but that’s for another time. Whether we like it or not it’s happening and it’s assembling a rather curious cast. Of course the classic film had an absolutely legendary cast with actors Steve McQueen, Eli Wallach, Charles Bronson, Yul Brynner, Robert Vaughn, Brad Dexter, and James Coburn heading up the main cast, so naturally the new film is under real pressure to deliver a group of actors that is as varied and exciting.

So how is the remake shaping up so far? Alongside Hawke the new film has cast Denzel Washington, Chris Pratt and Haley Bennet… which makes for an interesting cast, but not one I can fully get behind yet. Of course there’s a lot of excitement among Training Day fans as Hawke and Washington are being reunited on screen alongside director Antoine Fuqua, who also directed Haley Bennet in The Equalizer. However I think I need to know a few more cast members before I can really have a strong opinion one way or another on this. So far I think Hawke is the most interesting addition to the film and I’m looking forward to him in the Western, but there is nothing here that makes me really sit up and think that this is anything other than just a little unnecessary.

But what do you think? Are you really looking forward to another Magnificent Seven film? Or are you a little more like me and are holding a few reservations? Whatever your thoughts I want to hear them so please tap them out in the comment box below!

  1. Haven’t seen the original so can’t really comment on that but this cast list is certainly interesting.

    1. Yeah it’s a mixed cast for sure. A lot is going to depend upon who fills the other boots I think.

  2. Not a bad start for the casting but think I rather keep my fond memories for the original. It’s going to be tough to do better…

    1. Exactly… I’m going to be very sceptical until we know the whole cast at least.

  3. I haven’t actually seen the original so I’m kind of meh about it.

    1. Fair enough!

  4. Can’t say I’m thrilled about it. “there is nothing here that makes me really sit up and think that this is anything other than just a little unnecessary” covers it.

    1. Haha yeah I’m pretty on the fence about this at the moment.

  5. A remake of a remake of a rip-off (of the Seven Against Thebes). I’m not fussed.

    1. It is excessive to say the least but I’m interested to find out the full cast.

      1. As announced so far the cast is solid but fairly predictable. Frankly I’m surprised they don’t have Josh Brolin in the Bronson rôle.

        1. Haha yeah it wouldn’t be too surprising!
