Ran – Brand New Poster and Trailer for 4K Restoration

RAN_Quad-FINAL_@220dpi.inddRan is back in cinemas this April with a brand new 4K restoration…

Akira Kurosawa’s masterpiece Ran is heading back onto the big screen this April (1st April). Courtesy of Studio Canal/Independent Cinema Office (ICO) we are going to be treated to a beautifully spruced up 4K restoration and it arrives just in time to celebrate both the 30th anniversary of the legendary film and also the 400th anniversary of the English bard who inspired the story, William Shakespeare himself.

Needless to say we are very excited to see the work done in restoring this cinematic treasure about greed, war and power, although for now we are having to make do with the rather beautiful new poster above and the trailer below (both released today). In case you don’t know the film and what you’ve been missing Ran tells the story of a feudal warlord in 16th Century Japan who, after having spending decades building his empire, decides to divide his land between his three sons. His poorly thought out decision quickly begins to destroy his family from within as familial ties are battered by the bloody desire for total power.

Ran will be back in cinemas from 1st April and then following on from that will be available on EST from the 25th April and on DVD and Blu-Ray from the 2nd May. London based cinephiles should also note that the film will screen as part of the ‘Shakespeare on Film’ retrospective at the BFI Southbank from 31st March to 31st May.
