Ridley is in talks for the iconic character…
Daisy Ridley, currently riding high on the success of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, in which she played one of the leads as Rey, has revealed that she has been in early talks to play video game character Lara Croft, star of the Tomb Raider series, in an upcoming film.
Previously Angelina Jolie played the character in 2001 and 2003, in the films Lara Croft: Tomb Raider and Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life, but the upcoming picture would be a reboot establishing its own continuity. Fans of the game series will be used to reboots by now, with 1996’s Tomb Raider, 2006’s Tomb Raider: Legend, 2010’s Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light, and 2013’s Tomb Raider each having established their own continuity.
Here at Mr Rumsey’s, we’re quite big fans of the Tomb Raider game series, and were pleasantly surprised at the quality of the previous film adaptations¹. While Jolie may not have been the best choice to cast as Croft – playing a little too much the standard Jolie ice queen archetype – we’re excited to see what Daisy Ridley does with the rôle, given how much spunk she showed as Rey, and have our fingers crossed for this new film.
